Zelda fans are getting a big treat with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, a remaster of the Wii game for the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made at today’s Nintendo Direct.
The game will be available on all Nintendo Switch devices July 16th.
As a Wii game, it was one of the harder games to port forward, seeing as it made use of the Wii’s motion controls by having attacks that mattered which way you were physically swinging your sword.
While you still have the option to play the game as originally intended using the Joycon’s motion controls, Nintendo have also added button controls for those who plan to play Skyward Sword HD in handheld mode, or are buying it for the Nintendo Switch Lite. With this mode, using the right stick will allow you to control the direction of the sword, doing vertical, horizontal and even diagonal strikes.
Naturally, it also has improved textures and resolution for playing it on the Nintendo Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was the last mainline title released on Nintendo systems before the announcement of Breath of the Wild, which was originally suppsoed to be on the Wii U.
Despite being one of the newer Zelda titles, it’s also one of the earliest in the chronology of the game, making it fairly important for Zelda fans who want to play all the Zelda games.
