Nintendo has just announced that a live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda is currently under development.
According to the official Nintendo website, the live action film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, as well as Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball, who worked on directing the Maze Runner film trilogy. .
“This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films.” said Miyamoto in a statement over on Twitter.

“I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.” he continued.
The film is said to be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo.
Meanwhile, the theatrical distribution of the film will be done worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.
Given the recent success with video game adaptations, such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as well as the Sonic The Hedgehog movie, it’s not surprising to see more and more live-action adaptations pop up.
