It has been confirmed that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War, an anime based on the popular RPG series by Nihon Falcom, will be getting a mobile game adaptation.
Both the new mobile game and the anime is it based on will launch in 2023.
Trails of Cold Steel is a subseries of The Legend of Heroes franchise which began with the original Trails of Cold Steel that was released in 2013 for the PS3 and PS Vita. The latest video game in the franchise The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie which released in 2020 for the PS4 and later for the Nintendo Switch, PC and PS5.
The anime The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War takes place between the events of Trails of Cold Steel II and III. Here is a synopsis of the anime via Gematsu:
“S.1205. Lavi is a girl born and raised in North Ambria State, the poorest region in the northwestern part of Zemuria.
To protect her hometown, and to prove she is different from her grandfather Vlad—who was once hailed as a hero but betrayed North Ambria—she volunteers to serve in the renowned Northern Jaegers, the largest jaeger corps in the continent.
Devoted to her duties to the point that she repeatedly breaches discipline, Lavi is grouped into a platoon with Marty, Iseria, and Talion and ordered to undertake a reckless undercover mission into the Erebonian Empire”.
While the Trails of Cold Steel mobile game is set in the same world of anime, it will feature an original plot and original characters. The tactical combat system “ARCUS II” that was used in Trails of Cold Steel III will also be implemented into the new game.
The anime The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War will begin airing on January 8th, 2023.
