Ever feels that Mobile Legends is similar to League of Legends (LoL)? Well, its developer – Shanghai Moontoon Technology is now getting a lawsuit from Riot Games for alleged copyright infringement of LoL.
According to the lawsuit, Riot claims that 3 games from Moontoon (Magic Rush: Heroes, Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA, and Mobile Legends: Bang bang) carries a great similarity with LoL’s characters, artwork, map designs, and unit and monster designs.
Even that Riot Games has contacted Moontoon regarding Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA, Moontoon removed the game from Google Play Store but later reupload the exact same game (with minor changes) under a new name – Mobile Legends: Bang bang without any warning or notification to Riot or Google.
However, the case seems to be complicated than we think. King of Glory (王者荣耀) by Tencent is aiming a launch in Europe market (with the name of Strike of Kings), while Mobile Legends is their strongest competitor (ML is already dominating the Europe market). And for information, Riot Games is under Tencent. So the question is, does the lawsuit carries other motives (clearing up ways for King of Glory)? Well, I guess only Tencent and Riot Games knows the answer.
In response to the lawsuit claim, Moontoon releases an official statement where you can read about it here.
