On the Script Apart podcast, creative director Neil Druckmann spoke about The Last of Us: Part 3, about having an outline for the hypothetical sequel. Of course, he isn’t revealing any specifics about a game that doesn’t exist – yet – but does hope that it will come to fruition one day. As one would expect, there is a lot that goes into making a game, so we shouldn’t be thinking it will come out anytime soon, if at all. He speaks about themes and structure they’ll need to stick to, when it comes to making such sequels to games. For now, Naughty Dog will be exploring ideas, then figure out how they will commit.
For fans of the series, there’s a lot in the works to look forward to even without a sequel. HBO has greenlit a series based on the game, then there’s the supposed complete remake of the first game for the PS5.
Whatever you think about the series as whole, there’s no denying the impact The Last of Us has had, and Part 3, whenever should it come out, will have some really big shoes to fill. We will simply have to stay tuned while Neil and co-writer Halley Gross weave a narrative yet unknown.
