The Last Of Us is getting a PS5 remake, sources have told Bloomberg.
No official announcement has been made for The Last Of Us remake, therefore no release window has been given either. However, Bloomberg’s report does tell an interesting story about the development of this game, being helmed by a lesser-known team within Sony’s studios on what Kotaku describes as a “probationary basis”. That same team was called in to support The Last of Us Part II towards the end of its development.
According to Bloomberg via Kotaku, however, Michael Mumbauer, the head of what would be casually referred to as “Naughty Dog South”, as well as the majority of the team would leave the team by the end of the year, with the work of remaking The Last Of Us instead falling back to Naughty Dog. The team is also being supported by Sony’s Visual Arts Support Group .
Bloomberg’s report highlighted more than the remake of a 7-year-old game, however, as it described more on the internal selection process within Sony’s studios, painting the picture of one that focuses more on safe bets, as they described the struggles of Bend Studio to get a sequel to Days Gone, despite the game’s commercial success.
Representatives from neither Sony nor Naughty Dog have commented on the story.
