In the wake of Berserk author, Kentaro Miura passing away, its future seems to be an uncertain one. The story has not concluded, and Berserk cannot get future new chapters from the author himself, so in lieu of updates, chief assistant on the manga has given some of their thoughts via Twitter at Drache_Doratan, with translations through DualShockers.
Nothing has yet to be decided on continuing the manga, considering them having no right to decide it for themselves. It’s not a direct dismissal, so we’ll just have to wait regarding these plans, which will likely take a while. They thank fans for the support they’ve given for Miura’s works, and hopes that fans will continue to do so. They themselves will also be taking a break from social media.
The anime and manga industry can be a grueling one – famous hiatuses include those for Hunter x Hunter, World Trigger, D.Gray-Man – where authors announce breaks due to health concerns, but the chief assistant wants to make clear this was not the case for Miura, saying the author had been following a decent diet with regular exercise over the course of 15 years. He was essentially healthy with no chronic illnesses.
You may have heard about the Dark Knight procession in Final Fantasy XIV; just one of the many, many works that have taken inspiration from Berserk, as fans across the world pay homage in ways they can.
