Have you ever dreamt of becoming a professional racer in your life but don’t know where to start? Well, worry not as Kuala Lumpur will be hosting the first-ever eRacing Grand Prix SEA this coming June.
The championship has only one goal in mind and that’s to transform virtual racers into real-life motorsport champions. This is all possible thanks to the the founder of Axle Motorsport, Alex Yoong who was inspired by eRacing in Hong Kong.
The reason why is because he sees the championship as the best platform for virtual racers to prove that gamers can establish themselves in real-life motorsports successfully as well. Besides that, Axle Motorsport chose SEA because it is a region where eSports are currently on the rise.
With eSports rising in SEA, Axle Motorsport view it as an opportunity for the growth of eRacing to become one of the top eSport games in the world. So, to those professional car racer wannabes, you can develop your skills to be one through PlayStation.
On top of that, the top 40 contestants from the tournament will be arranged to professional driver coaches where they will be trained to become real race car drivers! That’s like killing two birds with one stone if you are really good in racing games like Grand Turismo Sport and yearns to be a pro racing driver.
The qualifier will be a time trial match where participants are required to take part in the venue to proof your legitimacy in June however no further information about time and date of the qualifier is released yet. Moreover, VR might be incorporated in the later phases of the Grand Prix to make it more realistic and interesting.
The first Grand Prix will be held in Malaysia before heading to the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand. The winner of each country stop will be trained and offered a spot in Formula 4 South East Asia Championship (F4SEA) as the first step before making their way to becoming a professional racing drive. The date for it has yet to be announced so stay tuned for more updates.
