Just a little under a week since the free-to-play shooter The Finals made its debut on Steam, it is currently the fourth most played game on the platform.
According to SteamDB, The Finals has a total of over 242,000 concurrent players and over 170,000 current players as of time of writing, placing the game just below Lethal Company and just above 2023’s Game of The Year Winner – Baldur’s Gate 3.
Over the course of The Finals’ release on 8th December 2023, Embark Studios’ title had amassed over 44,000 user reviews 74% of which are positive, making the game be rated as “Mostly Positive” on Steam.
This goes to show how free-to-play shooters will always have a place in Steam’s massive repository of games, with other titles such as Counter-Strike 2 or Apex Legends having equal success on the platform.
Many of the positive reviews stem from player’s praise over the game’s unique concept where just about everything in the environment can be destroyed, leading to various interesting ways to go about during a match.
However, despite The Finals’ general praise, there is also equal criticism revolving Embark Studios’ willingness of using AI voices for the in-game announcer, which is an interesting decision given the recent issues within the industry where layoffs, strikes and more had occurred.
