Striking Distance has shown off new gameplay for the upcoming the Callisto Protocol, debuting the new Mutations system for the game.
Describing it as an explicit ramp-up of the dismemberment system from Dead Space, the gameplay showing off mutations in Callisto Protocol makes it look like it’ll be exclusively about making sure you finish your food- enemies dismembered won’t stay that way for long, and can get more powerful.
We still don’t have too many details about exactly how far the mutations can get- the gameplay teaser only had one such example- though considering the game’s use of dismemberment, it wouldn’t be surprising if mutations were actually tied to what parts you’d actually cut off.
They also showed more of the game’s combat, combining many Dead Space-esque elements like Kinesis, being able to even pick up human-sized enemies.
There’s also new mechanics too such as Stealth takedowns, meaning players looking to conserve ammo will also be able to dispatch enemies with ease.
Of course, it wouldn’t be flaunting its Dead Space roots if it didn’t also show off the game’s unique death scenes, with the main character getting horribly crunched in half.
Callisto Protocol launches December 2nd, and you can read more about the pre order bonuses for the game here.
