This week on the Brave Room, Wan and Kit go on a pseudo-follow-up to our episode with an important part of the journalism gig- leaks.
Leaks are an important part of the game industry, since a lot of outlets are torn on whether to report on them or not, largely based on how cozy they want to be with publishers.
But do leaks detract from the fun? Devil May Cry 5 was an open secret years before it got announced. Similarly, Dark Souls 3 was also leaked ahead of its announcement, and was still just as big a reveal anyways.
And more importantly, with the case of Gacha games, wouldn’t leaks technically be for the better since it helps you plan your spending? It certainly helps games like Honkai Impact, where people know what to get excited for an update before it hits global servers. On the other extreme end, there’s cases like the Monster Hunter leak, where the source of the information absolutely deserves to not be rewarded.
Surprise, it’s another episode about the ambiguity of working in the media, and how not everything is black and white.
The Brave Room is GamerBraves’ own podcast, hosted by “Wan” Amirul Adlan and Kit “I actually know Inazuma when” Chew. It’s available on Anchor, YouTube and Spotify.
