An Offline Version of the MMO Dragon Quest X will be launching for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and PC. It will release on the 26th of February 2022 in Japan with no word on international localization.
Dragon Quest X is the tenth entry in the long-running JRPG series and the only entry to be an MMO as opposed to a single-player game. It was originally released in 20122 for the Nintendo Wii but would later be released on the Wii U, PC, Mobile Devices, 3DS, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. There are currently 5 versions of the game released over the years.
The Dragon Quest X Offline version of the game was announced at the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Special Live Stream alongside version 6 in March 2021. The offline version will maintain the gameplay of the MMO RPG however it will convert the game to be a complete single-player experience that can be played without the need for wi-fi.
There is currently no confirmation if the game will be localized or why previous iterations of the game have not been however it may simply be due to Square Enix not wanting the pay for international servers for the game as Dragon Quest tends not to be as popular internationally as it is in Japan. If this truly is the reason, an offline version should alleviate this issue however this is still unconfirmed.
Since Dragon Quest X’s release, Dragon Quest XI, a single-player JRPG has been released and Dragon Quest XII is also in development. A Dragon Quest mobile game is also in the way.
