Koei Tecmo released additional details on Nioh 2, and what is most interesting is the fact that the game will in fact be a prequel to the original. Among other new features is the addition of a Dark Realm where enemies can pull players into.
Nioh 2 will take place in the late 1500’s, just prior to the events that unfolded in the first game. Instead of taking on the role of a named protagonist, this time around, players will assume the role of unnamed character who is a famous warlord who has yokai powers. It is thanks to this yokai powers that players are able to take on supernatural enemies, as you are able to transform into a demon with special abilities.
Touching on the Dark Realm once again, this feature will see foes dragging players into this section which act as their home turf. As you might expect, this grants them enhanced abilities and powers, which in turn makes the encounters that more dangerous. However, beating enemies here is one of the ways that you will be able to gain high quality loot, so there is definitely that risk and reward factor involved.
In any case, Nioh 2 is scheduled for a release sometime early 2020, so stay tuned for more details from Koei Tecmo as to when that day actually is.
