Talking about PlayStation 4 exclusives, you will probably think of God of War, Detroit: Become Human and Marvel’s Spider-Man that launched this year. From our experience, PS4 exclusives always give us the most promising titles, and Days Gone will be one of the most-anticipated ones coming in 2019. We are lucky to get a chance to interview its producer, Chris Reese, John Garvin and Jeff Ross, so check out what they told us below!
Days Gone is an action-adventure survival horror game where you will control Deacon St. John who struggles to survive in a post-apocalyptic world full of Freakers. As he was a member of a bike club before the world fell to ruins, you can travel across the open world with a bike (you will have only one bike for the whole game).
The bike can be damaged and of course, it will need fuel to travel so you must find resources to upgrade the bike and keep it running. The location of the bike will be your checkpoint too, you will respawn or continue your saved game from that location. Be careful where you park your bike!
The game features 3 main storylines where you will discover pieces of stories and clues that tell you more about how the world ended. In the game, you will face hordes of mutated humans – the Freaks and there will be 8 types of them. Those Freaks can infect other humans, turning them into Freaks. They won’t intentionally attack you, but if your health is low they will become aggressive.
The Freaks are active at night and retreat to their nest to rest during the day. Therefore, you should avoid staying outside at night, instead you can stay at your base and wait for tomorrow to come. At the base, you can sleep to skip the night (5 minutes in real life = 1 hour in the game). However, this wouldn’t recover your health so you will still need medicine. You can also go days without sleep and there won’t be any harm to your character.
The only way to destroy a nest is by starting a fire. There are multiple ways to do so – you can use a Molotov, gasoline, incendiary bolt (crossbow) and more. Freaks aren’t your only enemy, you might be attacked by Marauders (other humans) and creatures like wolves too. Aside from these, you may face a unique enemy type (the boss) as well.
Days Gone is an open-world game, which means you can explore the world freely to gather the resources you want. But be careful to not make loud noises, as you might trigger the “Escalation” that summons hordes of enemies.
There will be a great variety of traps and weapons that you can use such as Pistols, Uzi and Axe. Melee weapons will have an endurance level shown next to the weapon icon. Once it is depleted, the weapon will break. Fortunately, we can always craft items and weapons using the resources we found, there will be a skill tree allowing you to learn skills to repair melee weapons too.
These are all we know from our interview with Chris Reese, John Garvin and Jeff Ross! Days Gone will be releasing exclusively for PlayStation 4 on February 22, 2019. You can visit their official website for more information, and stay tuned for the pre-order!
