During The Game Awards 2023, ex Tango Gameworks designer Ikumi Nakamura had shown off a brand new game titled Kemuri.
While the teaser trailer did not reveal any gameplay, we did get to enjoy about 50 seconds of unique and interesting visuals with strong Japanese pop culture influences mixed in vibrant colours, which was certainly a treat for the eyes.
The trailer then ended off with 6 characters in techwear-themed clothing posing in front of a horde of menacing supernatural beings, akin to Yokais, which is not too surprising considering Nakamura’s past work in Ghostwire Tokyo that also had strong presence of Japanese folklore throughout the entirety of the game.
Kemuri will be Ikumi Nakamura’s first independent work since she founded her brand new studio called Unseen Inc.
Ikumi Nakamura is a well-love figure within the game community, both from her past works in PlatinumGames and Tango Gameworks, as well as the famous clip of her saying “Spooky” back in E3 2019 which caught the hearts of many players.
Not much details have been revealed in regards to Kemuri nor the game’s release date, so fans that are interested in this title might have to wait a bit longer as more details surface eventually.
