Tekken 8 appeared at The Game Awards 2022, revealing more returning characters, including the surprise announcement of Jun Kazama as playable.
Here is the full trailer that’s been uploaded to Bandai Namco’s Youtube Channel:
“Father. Son. Mother. This family reunion is going to be explosive. TEKKEN 8 is bringing back old grudges to the new generation. Get ready for the next-gen battle and look forward to a lot more in the next edition of Tekken – old and new!”
The trailer also confirmed that the following characters will be returning for the latest King of The Iron First Tournament:
- Kazuya
- Jin
- Paul
- King
- Law
- Lars
- Jack-8
- Jun Kazama
Of the announced characters for Tekken 8, Jun Kazama is the most notable. She is the mother of main character Jin Kazama who has not appeared in the numbered Tekken title since Tekken 2 on the PS1 (she did appear in the non-canon Tag Tournament games though). According to the lore, she disappeared when Jin was a teenager, presumed to have been killed by Ogre. It seems that wasn’t truly the case, however.
While Tekken 7’s story focused on the deep-seated rivalry between Kazuya Mishima and his father Heihachi, Tekken 8 seems to be centered around the relationship between Kazuya and his own son Jin.
Tekken 8 will launch for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023.
