Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios have announced their latest cooperative adventure game, Split Fiction during The Game Awards 2024. The game is set to launch on March 6, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The game promises to push the boundaries of cooperative gameplay, following the studio’s critically acclaimed It Takes Two.
Hazelight founder Josef Fares expressed excitement about the project, stating, “With Split Fiction, we’ve created our most epic co-op adventure yet.” The game follows two contrasting writers, Mio and Zoe, who become trapped in their own stories after being connected to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas.
Players will experience a unique gameplay concept that alternates between sci-fi and fantasy worlds, offering a diverse range of mechanics and abilities. The game’s wild adventures include escaping a supernova, engaging in a dance battle with a monkey, performing hoverboard tricks, fighting an evil kitty, and riding everything from gravity bikes to a sandshark.
The game continues Hazelight’s commitment to innovative cooperative experiences. Jeff Gamon, Electronic Arts Partners general manager, highlighted the studio’s ability to create memorable multiplayer moments, praising their ongoing partnership. In addition, a key feature returning from previous Hazelight titles is the Friend’s Pass, which allows one game owner to invite a friend to play for free. This time, the feature includes cross-play functionality across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
Split Fiction builds on Hazelight’s successful track record, following It Takes Two, which won Game of the Year in 2021 and has sold over 20 million units worldwide. More details about the game are expected to be revealed on December 13.
