The Google Play Store will get official PC integration in 2022, as announced at The Game Awards 2021.
“Players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs.”
“This Google-built product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more.”
Greg Hartrell, Product Director, Games on Android and Google Play
Apparently, Google Play on PC is a “new product” of sorts, as this integration is not being done in partnership with another company. We’ll have to see what the exact details are, and how much it may replace existing emulators. There are quite a few things to consider, after all, from touchscreen controls, controller support, 64-bit support which should hopefully be native, and all that jazz.
