Tencent Games has expanded the release plans for Light of Motiram, announcing it will launch on PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android in 2025 alongside the previously revealed PC version via Steam and Epic Games Store. Developed by Polaris Quest and Aurora Studio, the game is a free-to-play open-world survival title set in a post-apocalyptic world where players must navigate environments dominated by colossal mechanical beasts known as Mechanimals.
The recently unveiled trailer (which you can find here, courtesy of Gematsu) provides an in-depth look at Light of Motiram’s gameplay, highlighting its blend of survival mechanics and creative freedom.
According to the game’s overview, players can construct fortified bases using a physics-driven building system, tame and train over 100 unique Mechanimals, and engage in precise, skill-based combat against towering adversaries.
The game also features diverse biomes, including tropical rainforests, arid deserts, and snow-covered peaks, offering a variety of challenges and mysteries to uncover. For those seeking camaraderie, multiplayer allows up to 10 players to team up for exploration, resource gathering, and tackling formidable bosses.
Despite its fresh approach, Light of Motiram has drawn comparisons to Horizon Zero Dawn due to similarities in its mechanical creature designs and tribal aesthetics. Critics and fans on social media have commented on the resemblance, with some humorously dubbing it “Horizon Zero Originality.” However, the game’s unique survival elements, such as resource management and Mechanimal customization, provide a distinct gameplay experience that separates it from the Guerrilla Games’ franchise.
This controversy mirrors the situation with Palworld, which faced legal scrutiny for its similarities to Pokémon. While it remains uncertain if Light of Motiram will encounter similar challenges, its innovative mechanics and ambitious world-building have undeniably captured the spotlight. Love it or question it, the game has already positioned itself as one of 2025’s most anticipated releases.
