Dying Light series developer Techland announced a partnership with Tencent who will soon become its majority shareholder.
The announcement was made by Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka on their official website, saying that Techland will still retain full ownership of its intellectual properties and creative freedom.
“Today I am happy to announce the partnership with Tencent who are in the process of becoming Techland’s majority shareholder.” says Marchewka.
“Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games.”
“We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.”
Techland is currently working on a new open-world action RPG in a fantasy setting, and Marchewka claims that it’s “already shaping up to become something truly special”.
He added that the goal of the partnership with Tencent is to ensure their first new IP in almost a decade will live up to the expectations.
Techland also said that they always dreamed of transforming the Dying Light series into the ultimate zombie video game and providing players with numerous astonishing adventures, pushing the boundaries of single-player and multiplayer gameplay.
Tencent is a Chinese multimedia conglomerate that has acquired and invested in multiple game studios around the world.
Some known studios under their umbrella include Riot Games, Epic Games, Ubisoft, Turtle Rock Studios, Remedy Entertainment, and many more.
