Netflix has announced a new anime based on the Tekken series, titled Tekken: Bloodline and featuring series protagonist Jin Kazama.
In a new trailer, they showed off the basic premise of the series- it follows Jin Kazama, who goes under the tutelage of series antagonist Heihachi Mishima to learn how to fight.
According to Netflix’s official summary of the anime this naturally leads him on the path to the King of Iron Fist tournament, the tournament every Tekken plot revolves around.
No exact release date has been given for Tekken: Bloodline, though Netflix has said you can expect the Tekken anime to drop some time in 2022.
Here’s the full summary of the series, courtesy of Netflix:
“Power is everything.” Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age. Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever. Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it. His quest will lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage — The King of Iron Fist Tournament.
It should be noted that like other Tekken adaptations, this seems to have its own story, rather than lifting from the games- we get glimpses of multiple Tekken characters in the trailer, including fan-favorite Leroy.
It also sports a CG animation style, though with an art style to make it look like it was animated in 2D instead.
This isn’t the first adaptation of Tekken’s story, with the fighting game series having previously gotten a live action movie, a 2D movie as well as a 3D feature in the past, all independent of one another.
