Tales of Luminaria has announced its end of service, just over six months since its simultaneous release worldwide. The game will be sunset on 19 July 2022, 19:00 PDT, with all items in your inventory usable until then and in-app purchases disabled.
The end of service notice on the Tales of Luminaria website can be roughly summarized as follows:
- While they have worked to improve the game based on feedback, it was not enough
- Weekly episode distribution will end effective immediately, leaving characters without an Episode 2. An “Episode Final” of the Fateful Crossroad anime will be an attempt to bring some closure, however little, to their stories
- A digital archive is planned for the costumes, designs, illustrations etc., as well as publishing soundtrack of the in-game background music is in the works
The game’s trailers and websites will be removed once the servers officially shutter. Whether these will be added to the archive is not specified.
The game did not have a smooth start, and the team did certainly work to address the various issues players had with the game. Not launching with Japanese dub aside, the day one experience left much to be desired, for us anyway. “21 protagonists” is staggering as is for any media, so we’ll have to see if somehow, they will find new life much like how Crestoria’s manga adaptation intends to do.
