The Tale of Food, originally a Chinese-made game, will be commencing its Japan release’s closed beta test come 25 September 2020. Known as Shoku Monogatari, the game had been gradually revealing Japanese voice actors for the various humanized food in the game. The original Chinese release utilizes Chinese voice actors. We’d previously reported on its pre-registrations opening here.
Going by its bilibili pre-registration page, the game has already achieved at least 200,000 pre-registrations, so the Shrimp Chili character shouldn’t be too far off.
The basic conceit of the game is you bringing back the food spirits to their rightful home to you after they have lost their memories after an attack that destroyed your contracts with them. The characters are based off Chinese cuisine, rather than how Food Fantasy, a game with a similar premise, has more international fare.
The Tale of Food has regional servers for Singapore and Malaysia as well. The possibility of a global offering is not yet known. In any case, The Tale of Food closed beta for Japan will run from 25 September to 3 October 23:59 JST. 3,000 players, 1,500 each from iOS and Android, will be able to play. Data will be reset and in-app purchases are unavailable.
Recommended specifications are listed as follows:
- Android 4.4 or higher (2GB RAM or more)
- iOS 9.0 or higher (1GB RAM or more)
