The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have reportedly arrested an individual in the ongoing row surrounding Gilagaming and an alleged PS5 scam.
According to Malay outlet Kosmo (article paywalled), the suspect is a 23 year-old male who was arrested in Pulau Pinang, but they declined to name the exact individual and if he was from Gilagaming.
“I confirm, a 23-year-old male suspect was successfully arrested by the police yesterday (the day before yesterday) in Penang,” says Director of Commercial Crime Investigation Department, CP Dato’ Kamarudin Md Din.
The case has been a hot topic on the Internet last week, as many who’d placed preorders with the store Gilagaming began to get riled up after they announced they would be closing for 10 days, assuming the seller had run off with all the money they’d made from preorders.Local Facebook groups began sharing the story, with the victims claiming the store had made off with more than RM800k in total preorders from the customers.
Meanwhile, the store had reportedly lost access to their Facebook page due to the influx of reports, further lending to the theory that they had done a disappearing act.
However the management of Gilagaming had then lodged a police report against their supplier, Setsuna Shoppe, claiming it was them who failed to produce enough stock to meet the demand, but was still holding the money and preventing refunds.
Meanwhile Setsuna Shoppe gave his own version of the events, leading to an awful lot of he-said-she-said, before the police finally got involved with the matter.
