Iconic Italian plumber Mario and a host of other iconic Nintendo characters will arrive at Super Nintendo World Universal Studios Hollywood. Earlier today, Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed that the Super Nintendo World will be opening in the iconic Los Angeles tourist destination.
Beyond the announcement, there isn’t much to go from in regards to the attractions or events that will take place. According to its website:
Get ready for SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, opening 2023 in Universal Studios Hollywood. And level up with all kinds of exclusive apparel and collectibles at the Feature Presentation store in the park, opening soon.
It is unknown exactly when in 2023 will the video game-themed land open. Regardless, visitors can expect to see Mario, Luigi and many other of Nintendo’s legendary characters in Super Nintendo World, similar to the one at Universal Studios Japan. According to reports, the American Super Nintendo World will be smaller than its Japanese counterpart.
As part of the partnership between Nintendo and Universal back in May 2015, Super Nintendo World is one of the major projects featuring the Mario IP. Other projects include the upcoming Mario Bros film starring Chris Pratt which is under Universal Pictures. Universal Studios Japan began construction back in June 2017, but due to the pandemic, the theme land finally opened in March last year.
