A sequel to the 2023’s The Super Mario Bros Movie with Chris Pratt’s impeccable voice has been announced by Nintendo and Illumination is back to producing the film.
As part of the celebration of Mario Day on March 10, 2024, Nintendo released a video on social media with creator Shigeru Miyamoto announcing various news relating to the jumpy plumber.
Among the news is the production of a sequel to The Super Mario Bros Movie, which is set for release on April 3, 2026.
Chris Meledandri, Founder and CEO of Illumination, and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, will once again be producing the movie.
Both Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will be returning to helm the film as directors and Matthew Fogel will also be coming back as writer.
The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed theatrically worldwide by Universal Pictures.
“As for details of the new film, as I often say, we’ll let you know once we’re at the stage where we’re ready to share more,” said Miyamoto.
“This time, we’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story. We hope you’ll look forward to it.”

Illumination’s Meledandri chimed in and said, “I’m thrilled to announce our return to Super Mario Bros.”
“We start animation soon, and rest assured we’re be stressing over every detail to get it right.”
The Super Mario Bros Movie was released in 2023 and stars an ensemble voice cast that includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and many more big names in Hollywood.
