Nearly 2.5 years after Summerfall Studios’ successful crowdfunding campaign for their debut title, the studio has today announced a partnership with Humble Games for its release and the title’s new name, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.
“We’ve been following the journey of the incredibly talented team at Summerfall Studios for a while now and we’re absolutely thrilled to partner with them to help take Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical over the finish line and put it into the hands of fans all over the globe,” said Mark Nash, Vice President, Humble Games Global Publishing. “Stray Gods is a unique and innovative experience that blends a theatrical musical with a branching RPG narrative, and ultimately personifies exactly the type of games that Humble Games wants to bring into the world.”
Stray Gods follows the story of Grace, a young woman whose life is turned upside down after the Last Muse of ancient Greek mythology dies in her arms… but not before passing on a gift. Grace soon finds herself thrust into a hidden world of gods and monsters who live secretly among mortals in a tangled web of loyalties and betrayals. Unravel the mystery of the Last Muse’s death in this interactive roleplaying musical, where your choices in songs will dictate where the curtain falls.
“Humble immediately understood what we were doing with Stray Gods and knew it was something special from the outset,” said Summerfall Studios Managing Director, Liam Esler. “We are excited to partner with them for Stray Gods as we continue to develop this wild and wonderful videogame musical.”
Summerfall Studios Creative Director, David Gaider, added, “Thanks to our amazing supporters who backed our Fig campaign in 2019, we have been hard at work. While it’s true that COVID slowed us down significantly, Humble’s assistance over the past year has allowed us to make Stray Gods bigger and better. Now we have full voice acting, more songs, and longer playtime. We’ve still got a while to go, but soon we’ll unveil everything and it will be worth the wait.”
When Summerfall Studios crowdfunded the game back in 2019, the project was originally titled Chorus: An Adventure Musical, with its main attractions being the stellar voice actor cast, award-winning composer, Austin Wintory, and Bioware veteran, David Gaider.
On the renaming of the game to Stray Gods, Summerfall Studios Executive Producer, Elie Young explained, “There were many reasons why we wanted to change the name. But the primary motivation was that as the project grew past what we’d originally envisioned, we felt it needed a fresh new name that better fits the game’s tone and themes. We realized what we were making was less of an adventure game, and much more of a roleplaying game – not an ‘RPG’ in the mainstream sense, but a game truly predicated on roleplaying choices, in dialog, and in song. We feel that Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a much better reflection of what we’re making and where we want Summerfall Studios to head in the future.”
Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical will be released on Steam. Its launch date has yet to be confirmed.
