According to Encore Films Malaysia, Studio Ghibli film “The Boy and the Heron” will be releasing in Malaysia.
Though no release date has been officially announced, Malaysians can expect the film to be available in theatres in the near future.
Inspired by Genzaburo Yoshino’s novel How Do You Live?, The Boy and the Heron tells the story of Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy who struggles to settle in a new town after his mother’s death.
However, when a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive, he enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world.
Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, the film has received generally positive reviews after its initial release in Japan earlier this year in July 14th, 2023.
Before it premiered in theatres in Japan, nobody really knew anything about The Boy and the Heron beyond the fact that it was likely the animation icon’s final motion picture due to its unorthodox marketing campaign, as there were to be no trailers or official images beyond a solitary poster for the film.
Encore Films Malaysia, the distributor of The Boy and the Heron in Malaysia, have also distributed several other films in the country, including The Tunnel To Summer, The Exit Of Goodbyes, Suzume, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
