Developer Shift Up’s upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive action title Stellar Blade has received an 18+ adults-only rating in South Korea.
In a recent listing filed by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of South Korea (GRAC), Stellar Blade has been rated 18+ adults-only and “not for use by minors”.
According to the GRAC reviews, the age rating for Stellar Blade was passed based on two driving criteria, which are the presence of nudity and excessive violence.
The first main reason for the rating, according to GRAC, is that there are direct, explicit sexualized expressions of nudity, such as female characters appearing to be naked in their outfits.
The game is also said to contain excessive violence, including mutilated or dismembered characters as well as plenty of red blood shown on screen.
At the time of this writing, Stellar Blade has yet to be rated by the likes of PEGI or the ESRB rating boards, however, it is assumed that the game will also receive 18+ and Mature ratings in those markets as well.
Initially revealed as Project EVE, Stellar Blade caught the attention of many for its scantily-clad protagonist, Eve, causing the internet to call the game out for oversexualizing the female body with “unrealistic” proportions.
It was later revealed that Eve’s body was based on a full 3D digital scan of a Korean model, Shin Jae-eun.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Stellar Blade game director Hyung-Tae Kim noted that the development team “put special attention” to Eve’s back as that will be what the players see for the majority of their game time.
As announced during the January 2024 State of Play presentation, Stellar Blade will be available for the PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024.
