The Dota 2 TI8 is now happening and Steam will also be streaming the game live from their very own platform. Instead of watching it from the Twitch or YouTube Gaming livestream, you can now also watch it on Valve’s Steam.tv. For now, the site is only streaming the Dota 2 TI8 Main Event but we should be seeing more in the future for games that are on Steam.
As the gaming world is growing through eSports, the streaming world grew as well. With Twitch as the most used streaming site since it was known to gamers, we have now seen some of the large companies who turned their heads to streaming as well like YouTube, Xbox’s Mixer and now Steam.
However, Steam.tv looked clean and there were no other tabs to watch other streams or anything. That’s probably because they are still starting out and they are still in the midst of testing it out with the world’s largest tournament, The International.
The link that was provided on the official Dota 2 site will bring you to Steam.tv instead of Twitch. This might just be a move that will drive viewership to Steam.tv. We could already see Steam getting Steam.tv ready to compete against Twitch which will provide streamers another platform to stream instead of Twitch. If Steam has a better platform and a better offer for streamers, then Twitch might just lose out on that part and Steam.tv could be the next go-to streaming site. However, these are just a piece of my thoughts and it might or might not happen in the coming future.
