Lucasfilm and Joymax have just announced that they are developing a flight shooter title based on the Star Wars franchise for the Android and iOS platforms, going by the working title Star Wars: Starfighter Missions.
The game is made for the Japanese, South Korean and SEA market, the according to developer Joymax Corp, a company based in South Korea. It promises to fulfill the dreams of fans wanting to pilot a starfighter, as it will allow users to handle a variety of iconic Star Wars spacecraft.
Unsurprisingly, you will be able to play for either the light or dark side to access a hangar of more than 80 iconic starfighters. You will fly said crafts above well-known planets, where you will then be able to relive iconic battles that took place in either the classic or new trilogies.
Best of all, you will be able to assemble a unique fleet of starfighters from any class or faction, meaning the sky’s the limit in the combinations that you will be able to muster. There is also a Decal System that allows players to customize the appearance of starfighters by applying different skins for a truly unique appearance. Upon defeating enemies in battle, you will be able to collect parts that can be used to upgrade your craft of choice, or even unlock special ones such as Luke’s X-Wing, Han’s Millennium Falcon and Darth Vader’s TIE fighter.
How you play is up to you, although some strategy is required in assembling the best combination of crafts. If you are feeling confident, you will be able to partake in online battles in order to rank in the League Ranking System. Star Wars: Starfighter Missions does certainly sound very ambitious and paper, so we will have to see if the developer is able to deliver on all it’s promises. Good Star Wars game have been hard to come by, and if it comes in the form of a mobile game, then so be it. Drop by the official website for more details.
