The follow-up to 2018’s SSSS.Gridman, SSSS.Dynazenon has gotten a new PV showing off characters as well as some of the kaiju. The anime releases April 2021.
The anime isn’t a direct sequel to Gridman, though it’s described as having the same universe as the Tokusatsu homage.
From the PV we can see that a lot of the classic Gridman elements are there, such as its Evangelion-inspired sense of atmospheric unease.
Unlike the previous PV which only focused on the new characters, this PV also showed off the Tokusatsu elements, such as one of the anime’s kaiju.
The titular Dynazenon also appears at the end of the trailer, as well as in some shots earlier on.
Similar to Gridman, the anime will have it’s own cast of mysterious well-dressed characters. Their role in the anime is still unknown, though it’s very likely the comparison was entirely intentional.
With Studio TRIGGER at the helm though, all guesses are out the window when it comes to guessing if they’re subverting expectations or not.
OG Gridman fans in the Youtube video’s comments have taken to speculating the bizarre nature of Dynazenon ‘s name, being a portmanteau of two separate characters from the original Tokusatsu. Rather than being two separate characters, Dynadragon and God Zenon, the new titular hero appears to be a mix of both.
SSSS.Dynazenon premieres in April 2021.
