The Square Enix RPG Live A Live which was released on the Switch last year is now being ported to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam. The game will launch on the 27th of April.
A demo for the game that will allow players to go through the opening sections through three of the game’s eight worlds is now available to download. The saved data from the demo can be transferred to the full game upon release.
Live A Live is actually a remake of the 1994 Super Famicom game of the same name. The game is unique for a JRPG as instead of playing through one large story, you instead play through eight different stories that take place in different time periods like the wild west, the stone age, and the near future.
Each chapter has a different protagonist and slightly different styles of gameplay. For example, Edo Japan has you using stealth to avoid getting into battles while Ancient China has you teaching three students to inherit your martial arts style.
The remake is made in Square Enix’s recent HD-2D style of high definite sprite works making the world pop off the screen in high detail.
We reviewed the original Switch version of Live A Live last year so check that out if you’d like to hear more about the title.
We also interviewed the game’s producer Takashi Tokita, who was also the director of the original SNES version as well as the director of Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve.
