Ubisoft Toronto is now hiring for their Splinter Cell remake, releasing an announcement video featuring some of the original developers who launched the original 19 years ago:
Rebuilt from the ground up using the Snowdrop engine, the remake promises to deliver deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for. An interview with Creative Director Chris Auty, Producer Matt West, and Technical Producer Peter Handrinos was also provided, the trio being involved in the project.
The Splinter Cell remake is only in the earliest stages of development, currently working to “keep the spirit” of its predecessors. There will be updates to visuals and design elements to align with modern sensibilities, and NOT OPEN WORLD. The original game had revolutionary ideas for its time, which players may not find as impressive today. Keeping “Stealth Action Redefined”, they’ll be prototyping, innovating, and testing for this generation of players.
They want to ensure they can deliver the idea of “being a ghost”. Compared to the open worlds they’ve all worked on, the Splinter Cell Remake needs to keep to the tight, flawless execution of strategies, and rewarding player skill and mastery.
Ubisoft Toronto intends to make a solid base for the future of Splinter Cell, them also having been the studio to have developed Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Building a new team of both veterans and interested newcomers, let’s see what form the remake will take in time.
