Spider-Man No Way Home has come out to much praise for bringing together several Spider-Man villains, literally from the previous worlds of the old movies and the film’s mid-credits scene of the movie, we saw another one.
The scene is one strange little crossover that has a lot of potential for Spider-Man in the MCU and we thought we’d explain a bit more about it.
The Mid Credits of Venom Let There Be Carnage
So before we can talk about Spider-Man, Let’s talk about another, non-MCU Superhero movie – Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the second movie in the Venom Series.
A pretty weird series considering it’s a movie about a Spider-Man villain without any connection to Spider-Man. The mid-credits scene of that movie however aims to rectify this. After Venom defeats Carnage, he and Eddie are on the run and due to Spider-Man messing with the timelines in No Way Home, end up transported to the MCU.
Many expected this to mean the Venom would be an MCU series from now and we’d see at least a cameo from him in Spider-Man No Way Home, which might then set up a later movie where he fights Spider-Man.
The Mid-Credits of Spider-Man No Way Home
Well, we did get a cameo however Venom didn’t exactly stay in the MCU for long. The mid-credits scene for Spider-Man No Way Home shows Eddie Brock getting drunk at a bar, learning about the many heroes of the MCU before eventually getting sent back to his own world due to a spell by Doctor Strange at the end of the film.
A lot of fans found this disappointing as Venom doesn’t even meet Spider-Man before seemingly heading back to his own universe. It feels a little pointless however before he goes, one piece of the Venom Symbiote, a tiny black blob is left on the bar counter.
It is established in Venom: Let There be Carnage that any piece of the symbiote that splits off can become another symbiote meaning that this little speck of goo could become a whole new character when bonded with a person.
The Future of The New Symbiote
What could this mean for the future though? We can’t confirm but it is most likely that this new symbiote will find a host and appear in a later Spider-Man installment. It has been confirmed that Tom Holland has signed on for at least three more films so we know there’s more on the way.
But what character could this be? I think the most likely idea is that it could lead to an MCU version of black suit Spider-Man and Eddie Brock, giving Venom a more faithful origin alongside Peter Parker. The symbiote could find Peter down on his luck after the end of No Way Home where no one remembers him. He becomes Black Suit Spider-Man but is corrupted by the symbiote into being more malicious before eventually fighting against it.
At that point, it finds Eddie Brock and becomes Venom. While the Venom movie Eddie played by Tom Hardy is more of an anti-hero, this potential Eddie could bring the character back to his more antagonistic roots as a villain that loathes Spider-Man and wants him dead.
Alternatively, it could be a brand new symbiote character that we haven’t seen yet on the big screen like Toxin or Anti-Venom.
Ultimately we don’t know where that little blob on the counter is going but if the MCU has taught me anything, it’s that pretty much any cameo can lead to a new movie/tv-series and I don’t see this being any different.
