Spider-Man is joining the roster of heroes available in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game by Crystal Dynamics, according to a blog post by Jeff Adams, Associate Art Director at Crystal Dynamics.
Making Spider-Man Fun To Play
While not showing any gameplay or in-game footage, the blog post talks about the team’s ideas about implementing Spider-Man.
For example, the team says they want Spider-Man to transition seamlessly from navigation to combat. They designed his toolkit with this in mind as a result.
The team also says they have a direction for how Spider-Man’s upgrades will work. They wanted a mix of his iconic moves, as well as various gadgets. They said many of his gadgets would receive upgrades from SHIELD, Tony Stark and Hank Pym.
This is all to provide the player with multiple skill trees for Spider-Man. With this, players can build a webslingerwith their playstyle in mind. These skill trees would be based around his web shooters and gadgets.
Going Back To The Classics
While no concept art was shown, they talked about being heavily inspired by the iconic costumes designed by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.
Rather than being slaves to the original designs, however, they’d also include homages to many more modern artists interpretations of the character.
Finally, they confirmed that the game would add Spider-Man via a free update.
Jeff Adams said that Spider-Man would be introduced via an event in the game, and would have levels and challenges centered around him and his moveset.
