Spellbound is the upcoming game by Chucklefish who brought us the popular simulator game Stardew Valley. The game is currently still in development but details from an interview with CEO Finn Brice mentions that the game is a “wizard school sim” where Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter.
Though we already have another “wizard school sim” game on mobile called Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Spellbound will be a game for PC just like Stardew Valley. The game is said to be inspired from multiple references including Studio Ghibli, Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series, Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series, the Steven Universe and some Harvest Moon. So it’s not JUST Harry Potter.
The gameplay will probably have some similarities with Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery but more emphasis on relationships which is similar in Stardew Valley. Players will experience surprises from the NPC as they all have their own motivations and desires that affects your game. As you go on doing your daily tasks in Spellbound, players will also be able to do various stuff like farming for magical herbs, combat battles with retro-action RPG of Zelda’s battle system using swords and bows and many more.
“The game revolves around your path through school, the relationships you build, and your mastery of the several schools of magic at your disposal. Players should expect to build up their magical proficiency by undertaking school projects. This might have them growing magical crops and creatures in herbology or taking on the denizens of the forest in elemental magic.”
“School life is just as important as magic however; a lot of time will be spent meeting and befriending the varied cast of characters, taking on quests, awkward attempts at dating and a host of side activities.” – Finn Brice, CEO of Chucklefish
Based on sources, the game is slated to be released on PC but there is also a possibility that it can be on the popular Nintendo console, the Switch.
