NX3 Games, a South Korea based video game company is planning on extending its reach to Malaysia by opening a regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, NX3 Games had expressed their commitment during his work visit to the video game company’s headquarters in Seoul on 7th September 2023.
“So far, these South Korean companies have only expanded their wings to the United States. God willing, Malaysia will be the second country they choose as an investment destination.
“Discussions also include collaboration between NX3 Games and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), which I see will bear fruit when they expand their sites in the ASEAN region and place Malaysia as their headquarters,” Fahmi told Bernama.
As of time of writing, NX3 Games has headquarters in both California, USA and Shanghai, China, aside from their main studio in South Korea.
Fahmi said that the NX3 Games branch in Malaysia will be focusing on three aspects being game publishing, research and development, as well as content design.
NX3 Games chief content officer Terrence Kim mentioned that the company is keen on investing in Malaysia as they see massive potential in connecting the dots in the gaming industry.
“We are excited about the opportunity to expand in Kuala Lumpur. We are still in the talking stages but a lead is already there.
“The minister, MDEC and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) are helping us to get there as fast as we can,” Kim said.
Fahmi had also paid a visit to Smilegate, and through discussions with their top management led by chief executive officer Sung Joon Ho; the minister invited the company to consider expanding its business in Malaysia as an investment destination.
“Smilegate had met with MDEC during the Game Developers Conference 2023 in March, strengthening their cooperative relationship.
“God willing, this joint venture will continue and boost the digital economy sector in Malaysia,” Fahmi said.
NX3 Games have made several video game titles such as Rohan M and AVATARA.
