Sony resumes its smartphone evolution with the Xperia 5. The latest addition to the flagship series brings Xperia 1’s key technologies into a compact, stylish and sleek smartphone design.
Sony Singapore Marketing Company President, Atsushi Endo, said:
With Xperia 5 we’ve brought what our customers loved from Xperia 1 into a smaller design with the latest award-winning technology from Sony. Xperia 5 continues to bring uncompromised performance and leading experiences to a smartphone, only possible with Sony.
Advanced technology in a sleek and compact design
The best of Xperia 1 is packed into the Xperia 5. It now has a smaller footprint, while keeping the 21:9 CinemaWide display. The metal frame is protected by durable Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back, along with IP65/IP68 certified water resistance. The display provides more usable screen and can run two apps simultaneously. Split screen is easy with Side Sense via the 21:9 multi-window launcher application or voice command.
Three cameras, three lenses, endless possibilities
BIONZ X for mobile and advanced triple lens camera with 12MP sensors and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization is in the Xperia 5. Be ready for any occasion with a 16mm super-wide angle lens, versatile 26mm lens and 52mm portrait/tele lens (35mm equivalent).
As the Xperia 5 is water and dust resistant, you have nothing to worry about! Just ensure ports and covers are firmly closed. The device can also not be fully underwater, exposed to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or drink liquids. The Xperia 5 has a capless USB port to connect and charge, and will need to be completely dry before charging.
The Xperia 1 had the first Eye AF in a smartphone, reaching new heights in the Xperia 5. Sony’s Alpha cameras have undergone enhancements, able to track action with continuous burst shooting up to 10 FPS AF/AE tracking (Auto Focus/Auto Exposure). The Xperia 5 has increased AF/AE calculations as well (up to 30 FPS) for capturing moving subjects with precision focus. Xperia 1’s camera had Eye AF, able to identify and keep a human eye in focus, as verified by Strategy Analytics’ SpecTRAXService against the published camera specifications for over 14,000 smartphones, correct as of the 16th May 2019.
Capture stunning low light images with the bright F1.6 lens, large 1.4μm pixel pitch and Dual Photo Diode image sensor. Combined with RAW noise reduction technology, Xperia 5 produces beautifully sharp low-light images.
Mobile cinematography continues advancing with Sony’s professional digital cinema camera division. Cinema Pro, as powered by “CineAlta”, has been further improved. You can create multiple projects with different settings, increased flexibility in adjusting white balance, manual focus and audio recording levels to suit your needs. Trim individual clips and merge on the go.
New to Xperia 5 is ‘Photography Advice’, helping you prevent photographic challenges like a finger in front of the lens, or someone with closed eyes. You will always capture the perfect photo. The Xperia 5 is also compatible with Sony’s Imaging Edge Mobile application: transfer images from compatible Alpha or Cyber-shot cameras to check quality and easily share content directly to social media platforms.
Experience superb content immersion with a 21:9 CinemaWide display and Dolby Atmos sound
The 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio is packed into a smaller form factor, providing a viewing experience true to creator’s intent. Witness the 21:9 CinemaWide 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display with BRAVIA TV technologies, X1 for mobile engine bringing HDR (High Dynamic Range) remastering technology for more contrast, colour and clarity. PlayMemories Mobile users can update to get its successor app.
Creator mode powered by CineAlta in the Xperia 5 is inspired by Master Monitor colour reproduction, for precise colour accuracy on the go. It also has 10-bit tonal gradation for a myriad of colour representation, with deeper blacks and more natural colours. The display supports wide colour space ITU-R BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Illuminant D65.
Get an enhanced entertainment experience with Dolby Atmos, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, for an immersive entertainment experience. Let the sound flow around you with breath-taking realism with either headphones or Xperia 5’s built-in stereo speakers. Hi-Res audio is available for both wired and wireless, with DSEE HX and Stereo speakers for music in its purest form.
On the gaming side, the improved Game enhancer enables recording with burst screen capture at 20 FPS, or simply synthesise your voice with its voice changer feature.
Stay connected and entertained all day
Xperia 5 has Smart Connectivity to ensure you will always be connected to the best network. Sony’s deep learning engine (Neural Network Libraries) will analyse Wi-Fi signals and predicts near-future connectivity issues, switching to LTE should there be any Wi-Fi compromise.
The device packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with integrated X24 LTE Modem for enhanced gigabit LTE connectivity. 4 x 4 MIMO technology supports all LTE bands including low-bands, so you’re always connected no matter the signal coverage.
Worry not about your battery, as Xperia 5 has Smart Stamina, USB PD fast charging and 3140mAh battery for all day entertainment.
Show off your style with the Xperia 5 colours: Blue, Red, Black and Grey, and have colour matching cases too. Get the Style Cover View to see notifications even with a closed cover, the Style Cover Back for protection and Style Cover Leather.
