The Ministry of Communication and Multimedia and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry have been in talks with an entity, and today they reveal the entity as Sony at Level Up KL 2019! They have been in talks, believing in Malaysia’s ability to grow Southeast Asia’s game industry. There’s been plenty of support of Malaysia’s independent developers and raising awareness of their work, and it is now formalized in a partnership of Malaysia with Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SIE WWS).
Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios will be establishing a studio in Malaysia! It will be a part of the Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios family of global studios and be part of the network developing worldwide exclusive titles for the PlayStation universe. SIE WWS Malaysia will be providing art and animation services.

Malaysia will be working closely with SIE WWS to create opportunities for the local and regional games industry right here in Malaysia. There will be a focus on uplifting the talent pool in Malaysia, starting with the establishment of partnerships with education industry partners in the nation. This is to ensure that accelerated growth of the industry in the country will be not only be supported, but strengthened.
