Sonic Takes to the Skies: Inside AirAsia’s SEGA-Themed Flight Experience

In an exciting partnership between AirAsia and SEGA, passengers are now being treated to a unique, Sonic the Hedgehog-themed flight experience. The collaboration, which launched recently, features a specially decorated Airbus A330 aircraft.

The AirAsia X aircraft, sports a vibrant livery showcasing Sonic the Hedgehog alongside his friends Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Amy Rose. AirAsia plans to operate this eye-catching plane across its extensive network, covering over 100 destinations including major cities in Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific such as Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Sydney.

The cabin sections feature different Sonic posters, while the overhead compartments display Sonic X Shadow Generations promotional material. AirAsia has given even the restrooms a Sonic makeover, adding themed elements including stickers on the mirrors.

The Sonic flight experience extends beyond visual elements. AirAsia plays Sonic theme songs before takeoff and after landing, adding an auditory dimension to the journey. Additionally, on the inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, all passengers received complimentary Sonic’s Golden Ring Cakes, a zesty mango and lemon-flavored dessert. This special treat and a “Fizzy Iced Yuzu” drink will be available for purchase on all AirAsia Malaysia (AK) and AirAsia X Malaysia (D7) flights, priced at MYR 13 per combo.

As part of the launch, AirAsia gave us a sneak peek at upcoming Persona 5 Royal pins. Moreover, AirAsia has announced plans to introduce exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona 5 themed merchandise, which will be available for purchase starting in the first quarter of 2025 on all AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia X flights, as well as through AirAsia MOVE Duty Free.
