Slime ISEKAI Memories has been out for over 7 months now, with each month adding new characters based on each of the game’s elements. As all elements have been featured in the game, it’s as good a time as any to rank how each of them fare in terms of strength.
I’ll be ranking each element based on how good they are when you build a team purely using characters from said element. That means no mixing or including units from multiple elements. Note that in actual gameplay, there is no need to restrict yourself purely to 1 element—this article serves as more of an overview of each element and how they compare to one another.
Starting off this list, we have…
7. Dark
As the first element to be featured in the monthly format, power creep has resulted in dark being the worst element. The only 5★ characters who could somewhat compete against the best characters from other elements are [The Ebony Demon] Diablo and [The Black Progenitor] Diablo. Both Diablos have great self-buffs but their second skills aren’t that useful.
Besides them, only Shion [Steel Annihilator] and Veldora [Seal Releaser] have team buffs that are okay (not great), that being a pierce rate and Soul of Combos buff. They suffer from having multi-target Secret Skills. Like Diablo, they also have worthless second skills. 4★ [Swordsmanship Forge] Rimuru Tempest does have a good attack buff, but that’s all.
Dark does make up for this somewhat by being able to deal neutral damage to all other elements except light (which it’s weak and strong to), but no other element has been hit this hard by power creep. Dark Milim is lacklustre, Beretta has been power crept to oblivion while Demon Lord Rimuru’s self-guaranteed crit is pretty underwhelming.
6. Fire
New Year’s Milim aka Fire Milim is one of the best units in the game—guaranteed team-wide crit buff and also having a single-target Secret Skill made her better than a lot of other great support units who only had multi-target Secret Skills at the time.
However, the same can’t be said for the other fire characters. Whereas Milim is so good, the rest of the units in this element are mediocre or too niche. The main issue is that the fire units with good skills like Benimaru and Guy have multi-target Secret Skills, while fire units with single-target Secret Skills like Shizu and Gobta have lousy skills. Special mention goes to Guy, who’s the only unit that can seal DEF—useful when it matters, useless everywhere else.
Octagram Guy should also be noted as he’s the only unit in the game who can guarantee a stun against the enemy. While this makes the early to mid game a cakewalk, it doesn’t work in late game, essentially making him deadweight.
5. Wind
The 5th and 4th-ranked elements on this are pretty close, but the biggest reason why I put wind here is due to the lack of “punch”. Yes, you have great team buffs in the form of Hakurou and Wind Milim as well as good healers like Octagram Ramiris and Christmas Luminus, but there are no wind characters who can self-buff themselves to absurd levels like other elements.
As a result, wind’s issue is having expensive team buffs without characters who have cheap self-buffs that can reliably capitalise on buff stacking. The characters mentioned in the paragraph above work well in teams of other elements, but in a pure wind team, the lack of a dedicated burst unit brings it down.
Wind also has the credit of having the worst 5★ units in the game, like Butler Veldora, Maid Rimuru and Free Shuna.
4. Earth
Earth is where things start to get pretty balanced. The only “bad” earth unit would be Earth Milim, while every other earth unit is pretty decent or outright amazing. Earth Benimaru and Souei provide cheap buffs or abilities that are worth their cost while also having single-target Secret Skills. Treyni is an incredible healer who also has a single-target Secret Skill.
Above all else, Luminus is one of the best characters in the game. Both of her abilities are incredibly useful. If only Earth has more magical damage dealing 5★ units than just Treyni and Luminus, then the mono-earth team would be even better.
3. Light
Light possesses some of the strongest buffs and hardest-hitting attacks in the game, but also incredibly selfish. Whether Octagram Leon or normal Leon, the platinum blonde is incredibly selfish with his skills. Normal Leon has the strongest ATK buff in the game (but only for light units) while Octagram Leon’s skill only affect himself. Similarly, Gazel, who still remains one of the hardest-hitting units in the game, also only buffs himself.
While Octagram Leon and Gazel hits incredibly hard, normal Leon sadly has a multi-target Secret Skill. As for the other characters, Hinata has the best defensive buff in the game while Valentine’s Shizu is capable of healing and debuffing the enemy’s ATK. Light Shuna is just there and doesn’t do much.
Ultimately, the light mono-team is hard carried by Gazel and Octagram Leon. If only normal Leon had a single-target Secret Skill, the team would’ve been perfect. Thankfully, nothing in the game resists light, so it still is one of the best offense and even defense-oriented elements in Slime ISEKAI Memories.
2. Water
Water has an extremely solid lineup of Velzard, Raphael and Knight Alice. All 3 of them have amazing buffs and/or debuffs while possessing single target Secret Skills. Velzard’s Frostbite makes both Raphael and Knight Alice’s debuffs a lot more potent, while Velzard herself is a powerful burst unit with her self-ATK buff.
As for the other 5★ water characters, Water Rimuru fills in the niche of healer and unit who can delay enemy Secret Skills, while Souei is just okay as filler.
Special mention also goes to 4★ [Loyal Horn] Ranga who is easily one of the best units at dealing with bosses who spam Guard.
1. Space
To no one’s surprise, space is the best element in the game, and by a wide margin. Power creep amongst the elements wasn’t that obvious in Slime ISEKAI Memories until May rolled around with the ridiculously overpowered Iseki Revelry banner.
Space Milim and Octagram Milim are the two hardest-hitting characters in the game, hands down. It’s also worth noting that Space Milim has an ATK buff that’s on par with Leon. Masked Hero, despite having a multi-target Secret Skill is also the only character in the game who can outright give you another turn, all while being able to guarantee crit for the team. Space Rimuru is still an amazing general buffer. Heck, even Carrion, who no one really cared about, has an amazing low-cost buff. The only 5★ unit who’s not that good is Ranga—everyone else is either good or outright busted.
Even amongst the 4★ characters, Grucius and Shion have pretty powerful debuffs. Also, don’t forget 3★ Alice, who is there to stun enemies (if you don’t mind the RNG).
What do you think about our ranking for the elements in Slime ISEKAI Memories? Do you think power creep in the game will become progressively worse?
