The Singapore Police Force have arrested a 22-year old man who has allegedly stolen around 500 Pokémon cards.
On the official Facebook page of the Singapore Police Force (via SCMP) it was stated that since May 2023, they have received reports of four separate cases that took place in various stores around Singapore involving the theft of boxes containing Pokémon cards.
On May 9, 2023, the Police received a call for assistance after the victim reported that the same man who had previously stolen Pokémon cards had returned to the store and was found in possession of an opened box of Pokémon cards that were not his.
After investigation, the police identified the suspected thief, who was allegedly involved in three other theft cases on May 2, 4, and 8, 2023, leading to his arrest.
Approximately 500 Pokémon cards were seized as evidence, but the total worth of the collection he had amassed remains uncertain.
The man has been charged in court earlier this week on 8 August 2023 with theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871 and fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 1906.
It is no surprise that even Pokémon can be stolen as if they were vintage art pieces considering the surge of value and popularity they have had in the past few years.
Just last year, Youtuber Logan Paul went viral for breaking the Guinness World Record for buying the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold for $5.3 Million, which was a PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card.
