Singapore’s primary trade association for the gaming and esports industry, Singapore Games Association (SGGA), announced the new-term Executive Committee Members who will serve the Association on a two-year tenure starting July 2022. The committee will consist of local and international industry professionals.
SGGA will also host the first in-person SGGA Industry Day 2022, a conference on games development and esports in the local and regional scene for aspiring industry talents and students. Supported by Infocomm Media Development Authority, the SGGA Industry Day 2022 will be held at PIXEL @ One-North on 23 July 2022.
The conference marks the third edition of the annual event under SGGA, and the first time it is held in person since 2020 following the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The SGGA Industry Day aims to bridge the gap between the education and development industries of games development and be a nurturing ground for Singapore-based talents to springboard their careers in the industry. Participants can look forward to networking opportunities, as well as learning more about topics that are less widely covered in academic courses.
The New Committee
Starting July 2022, SGGA will be chaired by Elicia Lee, Managing Director of Eliphant, who is a specialist in-game marketing, events, video production, and esports in Asia. Felicia Lim, Head of Games BD for APAC at Twitch will be the Association’s Vice-Chairperson.
“I’m honored to renew my tenure with SGGA as its new Chairperson, and am looking forward to bringing SGGA to new heights together with the new Exco. The founding Exco did an amazing job of setting up SGGA and kickstarting a number of meaningful initiatives and relationships with partners, and at the same time we were able to identify improvements to be made, and gaps to fill,” said Elicia.
“Equipped with the learnings of the past 2 years, we have expanded the number of Exco members and identified specific roles that are needed both in SGGA and for the industry. This means we have a diverse and experienced Exco that is better able to be of service to the games industry and our members, and a clearer vision for how SGGA can better support and develop an ecosystem that will provide a good environment for Singapore-based games and esports companies to thrive,” added Elicia.
They will be supported by an Executive Committee and Advisory Board of industry professionals, some of whom are volunteering with the Association for the first time.
“I believe up to this point, the SEA game industry was just getting warmed up and is now ready to explode. And we are here to facilitate this growth, to ensure that the infrastructure is prepared. I’m incredibly humbled to join such a talented team of SGGA. Together, we’ll build upon the foundation established over the last two years. My job would be to tighten the relationship with platform holders. I’ll use my expertise in co-development and porting to help local indie developers with any difficulties they have along the way, whether it’s finding the right publishing partner or overcoming deeply technical issues,” said Gennadii Potapov, CEO and co-founder of General Arcade, and Exco-Member looking after the Indie games sector.
SGGA Industry Day 2022
Key highlights of the Singapore Games Association industry Day 2022 include talks on topics such as ‘Entrepreneurship in the Gaming Industry’ and ‘The State of Esports & Career Opportunities in Singapore’.
‘Fear & Loathing in Chinatown: Learnings from 4 Years of Development’ will explore one of 2022’s highly-anticipated games set in Singapore by General Interactive Co. Other industry speakers include representatives from Twitch, ESL, and Lionfish Studios. The full list of speakers and topics will be announced closer to the event.
Participants at the SGGA Industry Day 2022 can look forward to a recap of the Association’s past activities, achievements, and initiatives. The newly-elected Executive Committee Members will also speak together for the first time.
Students can also look forward to the Portfolio Showcase, in which they will be able to present their works to the industry, providing them with the opportunity to experience pitching to industry professionals and receive feedback about their work. Students or fresh graduates are welcome to submit their game projects here. The deadline for submission is 15 July 2022.
