Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the cast for Shrek 5, releasing a teaser that confirms the return of the original voice cast alongside a major new addition to the franchise.
The 27-second teaser released shows Shrek and Donkey interacting with the Magic Mirror, which displays various memes of the beloved ogre that have circulated online over the past year. The scene takes a humorous turn when the Mirror shows embarrassing photos and videos of Shrek, causing both characters to scream in horror, drawing the attention of other characters.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will reprise their iconic roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona respectively. The most significant addition to the cast is Zendaya, who joins the franchise as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.
To celebrate Zendaya’s casting, the official Shrek social media account on X (formerly Twitter) reposted a tweet from the actress from 2017 that read, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood,” with the comment “This aged well.”

Behind the scenes, Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will co-direct the film. Dohrn previously worked as a writer and artist on Shrek 2, while Vernon directed Shrek 2, served as head of story for Shrek 4, and voiced both the Gingerbread Man and Rumpelstiltskin.
Originally scheduled for release on July 1, 2026, Shrek 5 has been pushed to December 2026, reportedly to avoid competing with Minions 3. This new installment comes more than 16 years after the previous film in the franchise, “Shrek Forever After,” which was released in 2010.
