Shin Ultraman will be coming to Malaysia, bringing Hideaki Anno’s reimagining of the classic tokusatsu hero to local screens.
According to GSC, Shin Ultraman will release in Malaysia on October 6th, screening exclusively with the cinema chain.
It’s currently unknown if it will be available in all GSC outlets, or only in select ones as was the case with Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island.
Shin Ultraman is the hotly anticipated retelling of Ultraman, directed by Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno.
The character joins Kamen Rider and Godzilla as other classic Tokusatsu icons under the Shin Japan Heroes Universe brand or reboots by the director.
Unlike Shin Godzilla, which radically altered the design of the kaiju, Shin Ultraman seems to be a much more faithful adaptation of its source material, at least on a visual level.
Shin Ultraman has faced some trouble in its production cycle, mostly thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic- the movie had seen delays, though it was already in a complete enough state that Anno could start work on Shin Kamen Rider before the former’s release.
Similarly, Anno’s other works such as the Evangelion Rebuild movies and Shin Godzilla are available on Amazon Prime Video, while the original Neon Genesis Evangelion is available on Netflix.
