SEGA and Atlus have released more details on the gameplay of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance including its mechanics and features.
For the uninitiated, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is an enhanced edition of Shin Megami Tensei V and will feature “an all-new storyline featuring new locations, demons, and choices to make” along with enhanced gameplay.
Press Turn Combat
Returning is the series’ simple yet rewarding turn-based combat system named Press Turn Combat, which will feature new skills and gameplay elements.
When you target and attack an enemy’s weakness, you can gain up to 8 actions per turn, indicated by the Press Turn icon appearing on the upper right corner of the screen.
Magatsuhi Skills
The game will also feature the Magatsuhi Gauge, which fills up throughout the course of the battle, and once full, allows you to activate special abilities called Magatsuhi Skills.
There are more than unique 50 Magatsuhi Skills to utilize, with more than 20 newly added ones that are exclusive to certain types of demons.
Allies who share the same alignments will also give more access to even more abilities.
Innate Skills
Each demon in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance possesses innate skills – passive abilities that grant effects in battle.
Blessed Melody – Increases damage when striking a Light weakness for all allies.
Four Heavenly Kings – Raises all of your stats when a demon with Four Heavenly Kings is summoned.
Demonic Mediation – Patches up relations with a demon whose mood sours mid-negotiation.
Demon Conversations
In Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, you can strike up conversations with your opponents for a chance to turn them into allies.
All demons have their own unique speech patterns and preferences, with Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance enhancing them with livelier interactions.
Guest Characters
As you progress through the story, human characters you meet may participate in battle as your allies.
These characters fight like demon allies and would use also items. Ichiro and Yuzuru can use the demon summoning program to add more allies to your side, including their own demon partners.
Consecutive Encounters
After you have defeated an enemy, another demon may spawn to extend the battle, and the fight may become tougher than usual, but winning yields more Macca and EXP, as well as a higher chance of items dropping.
Consecutive encounters are more likely to occur when fighting in areas where many enemy demons are gathered.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is slated to launch on June 21, 2024, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
