Shadowverse will be getting a console game, in Shadowverse: Champions Battle for the Nintendo Switch. It is expected for 2020 in Japan, being a card battle game that has support for one to two players. However, from the presentation, the game will not be based on the original Shadowverse card game currently for PC, iOS and Android. It will instead be based on the upcoming TV anime that is set to air on 7 April. The console game will have story elements and presumably feature the various characters from the anime.
Considering how the original Shadowverse game does have its own storyline and characters, it might seem a little peculiar that Cygames would opt to go for a more typical card game anime aesthetic similar to Yu-Gi-Oh! and Cardfight Vanguard. We can probably just take the anime as it appears instead of the more high fantasy, and relatively darker tone of its original game.
Since Shadowverse: Champions Battle presents quite differently from its source game, we’d have to wonder about international availability. If the anime proves popular enough, and waiting for news later on once it actually starts broadcasting, we’ll keep an open mind. What do you think about Shadowverse branching off?
