WB Games has shown new gameplay for Mortal Kombat 1, as part of the game’s debut at Summer Game Fest.
The gameplay trailer shows off the previously announced reworked combat for Mortal Kombat 1- such as with the new Kameo Fighters.
It even finally reveals more of the Kameo fighters- featuring characters like Goro, Kano, Sonya and Stryker.
Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon also confirmed how these assists work- the game would feature one-button assists, with different assist moves tied based on directions pressed while tapping the assist buttons.
Ed Boon also confirmed that while most of the Kameo fighters would only be available as assists, there would also be some characters who could also be used as point characters, highlighting Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
Air Kombos In The Mortal Kombat 1
The trailers also showed more of the regular combat in Mortal Kombat 1, with the game looking much faster compared to Mortal Kombat 11.
The game features air combos now, with dedicated launchers and juggles combined with the assists to keep enemies in the air as well as dedicated jumping specials, like Scorpions hook.
From the HUD we were shown it looks like the game is also doing away with the dual-bar system from Mortal Kombat 11, instead having a single meter.
They’ve also showed the return of X-ray attacks, though the trigger conditions have yet to be revealed.
Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19th, 2023.
