Summer Game Fest closed out with a bang tonight, with the gameplay reveal of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the next installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.
The trailer even announced a nostalgic piece of news for fans of physical media: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would ship on two discs in Early 2024 for PS5, similar to JRPGs in the PS1 era like the original Final Fantasy VII.
Picking up after the events of Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will have Cloud and co finally exploring the world outside Midgar.
Cloud and the gang are looking for Sephiroth, who is still alive after the end of Remake, though little else of the plot has been revealed thus far.
The trailer has also shown that players will be able to recruit more party members, with Intergrade character Yuffie finally catching up with the gang.
That’s not the only thing from Intergrade coming over, as it looks like Rebirth will also feature Synergized attacks, with specialized animations showing characters teaming up such as Cloud, Tifa and Aerith, Cloud and Barret, as well as Yuffie and Red XIII getting special attacks.
On top of that you’ll be able to explore the open maps via Chocobo, with a dedicated button for calling your steed to you.
